Koru Art
Here is a picture of my Koru that I did.
I am really proud of it.
I chose to do the following colours:
Red
White for a blended look
Pink
I love my design and it represents my family and our peace.
I called it the peaceful harmony because I thought that it goes great with my family.
My mum and dad are on the outsides and I am in the middle.

Olympics Opening Ceremony Report
Key Words About The Ceremony:)
MY NEWS REPORT ON THE 2012 OPENING CEREMONY:)
Hello I am Felicity Johnstone and I am your Kiwi Kids news Reporter. Today I am here to report to you guys about the spectacular Opening Ceremony.
To start the night off we had a performance showing what the olden days were like in London. After a nice start of lovely families, it all turns into work, work and even more work. With all of the men hard at work and the ladies washing the clothes.
Then The queen strides in very poshley with James Bond following, they both take their seat and watch the performances. Then there was a fabulous range of countries children in choir singing in a magnificent tune. After that spectacular display there was a big group of glowing lights come into the center and make a smiley face. It ended up being there were a whole lot of hospital beds in the center of the stadium, with a different range of ages and sizes of children.
With the idea from J.K. Rowling, her characters came alive, there was Voldemort from Harry Potter, the evil lady from 101 Dalmatians. Then with a great big BANG, fireworks boomed in every different direction. Everyone around me were blown away in their own dreams. When I look around me all I can see is ‘ FLASH, FLASH’ and even more FLASHES. Their eyes looked like they were sparking wildly in excitement, with all of the fireworks reflecting onto their eyes.
Then there was a hilarious performance from Mr.Bean, he had a dream that he one a beach run. Trust me I don’t think that would ever happen in real life. Now would you look at that here come the Torch Bearers who will light the 2012 OLYMPIC GAMES CAULDRON. As they run around the track and pass the TORCH to each other. Here they come all ready to light the amazing OLYMPIC CAULDRON.
The the crowd all say ”Wow,” they are now lighting the Cauldron. As soon as it gets lit the whole place feels like we have just been hit with a bomb. All you can hear is cheering, the flashing of the cameras. The cauldrons fire was outstanding, it was so hot, I would have to say that I was sweating from up here. Once again I look around me and see the fire in the cauldron reflecting in their glazed eyes.
Then the Queen takes a stand and speaks to the people of the world, “ I declare the 2012 Olympic Games are now open “
The crowd stands and cheers their loudest.
My favourite part would have to be the lighting of the cauldron.
The funniest part was when Mr.Bean’s spectacular performance.

The Rotorua Sling-Shot Swing
Rotorua Swing from Kieren Moriarty on Vimeo.
These holidays my family and I went up to Rotorua to see my Great Grandad and to have a birthday lunch to celebrate his 92nd birthday at Valentines. After the lunch my cuzzie and I decided to do the Sling Shot Swing at the top of the Gondala. So we ended up paying for the ride to the top of the hill and did the ultimate Sling Shot Swing. It was really cool and fun at the same time, not to forget scary and cold:) This was a really cool experience. This was made on Movie-Maker.
I put a lot of courage into doing this Sling-Shot Swing. Once again, it was very scary and fun. You should try it when you next go to Rotorua and go up the Gondala. I HOPE YOU ENJOY MY VIDEO:)

My Persuasion
Dear Parkvale School.
Each and everyday classes around the school put a heap of food scraps in the bin and the Food Scraps group from room 20 is here to help.
First of all the school is wasting too much food scraps a day. For example, when room 20 emptied out their rubbish bin most of the rubbish was plastic and the second one that had the most was food scraps. So we decided to make a food scraps group to help the school. In our group we decided that Natasha can bring a worm farm. We thought that if we had a fundraiser to get some money to help buy separate bins. It would be a great idea to put separate bins in each classroom so then we can collect the food scraps and put them in our class worm farm to recycle.
Secondly the worms eat through the food scraps, so that is recycling with the worms. Having worms is also a way to make a garden grow with the wee that they produce by eating the food scraps that we provide for them. Also the food that they eat can be made into compost to be added to your garden. Also having a worm farm can save money for the school because we do not have to pay to take the rubbish to the dump.
Each and everyday, everyone around the world wastes a whopping amount of rubbish. It is very disappointing to see the amount of food scraps that go to waste a day. Here are some reasons why we should control the amount of rubbish we waste a day.
- It is a little unfair on the caretaker to pick up all of our rubbish, when we could take it home with us.
- Also parents pay for some really nice food and then the child chucks half of it out.
- We can save money by putting our food scraps in separate bins which will be transported into the class worm farm.
I hope that you will agree with me and say yes.
Yours sincerely

My Maths Knowledge Test ( STAGE 6 )
Reflection For My Maths Knowledge Test
·Something I was pleased with was that I got my ordering from smallest to largest because I sometimes read it in correctly and get them all muddled up.I really enjoyed learning my times tables with big numbers because they came in handy for the test.
Something I found hard was the how many section of the test.
·
Something that made me think was the ‘write these numbers in words’ because I had to make sure that I read the number correctly or I would write that number wrong and would get it in correct.
·
Something I want to get better at is my rounding strategies
(What can I do about it?) I can practice them at Kip Mcgrath on Thursdays.

Mr. Leaf
The Leaf
The veins spread
the leaf like it has
a disease
the leaf like it has
a disease
The spikes are
just like a monster trying
to hurt someone
The greenness is
getting tinted a yellowy brown
colour as Autumn has sent its
invite to stay for a while
The leaves are the
puppets and the wind
is the controller

My rafting experience
DAY 3
WHITEWATER RAFTING
“Yay!” it’s finally the day that we are going rafting, I wonder what instructor the CHINCHILLAS will get. We get told to go to the bus at the back of the restaurant. As we all pile onto the bus I see Mike walking up the stairs in front of me ” Hello Mike do you remember me, I came here with my parents in the holidays?” “Oh yes except I think you were just a tiny bit smaller, so is this your wonderful class here with us today.” “ Yes it is.” “So should I say hello.” “ Yeah I think they are very excited to meet you, I have told them all about you when I came here in the holidays.” “Ok that sounds great let's get started then, hey everybody, are you ready to go up and get all of your gear on?” “YES”, we all yell. “Ok lets get moving.”
When we arrive up top we all enter a shed type thing that they call ‘the rafting shed’, not that they ride a raft around in the ‘rafting shed’ it’s just it has all of the gear and changing rooms in it, anyway Mike tells us what is going to happen. “First I think we should get our wetsuits on with your thermal underneath”. “Done,” “ok now can you line up and let me get you a helmet, life jacket and some aqua shoes to protect your feet".“Ok now lets go over some safety rules before we head off on our amazing adventure.”
Mike started to tell us the safety rules and who the instructors are, Dion will have the Strikers, Liam will take the Mufflepuffles, Bones will have the Polar Bears and I will have the Chinchillas.” Then we all pile back into the bus and drive down to the river side and get ready for our 4 hours of rafting down the Mohaka river. We got our raft down to the river.“ Ok Chinchillas we need to push our raft safely into the river, got it guys.”
“Yes sir Chinchilla, we do.” ‘Crash’ as our our raft hits a rock as soon as we push our raft in , but in disbelief we survived, thank goodness. 1 Hour of our adventure had flicked by very fast and my group was starting to get hungry and I notice that we have the lunch bag.
“Hey Mike when is it lunch, because I see that we have the bag with all of the food in it.” “ Well we are going to stop just around this corner,” “oh, hello lunch corner, how are you today” and there was no reply of course. Mmm lunch was delish I thought. Now it’s time to get a move on since we are running a bit behind in our course.
“Ok now lets push our raft into the river.” “ Forward paddle.” shouts Mike in his South African accent. “Stop” he shouts out in a very loud voice. “Ok now just up ahead is what we like to call ‘CARNAGE CORNER’, now we need to have everyone sitting at the back so we can do a wicked 360 when we hit the bank, everyone got it now,” “YES,” we yell as we all move to the back of the raft. “Ok forward paddle everyone......, now hold on and DON’T let go.” As we hit the bank we all squeal in amazement “ How was that Chinchillas?”
“Great, can we watch the other groups go around ‘CARNAGE CORNER’?” I ask in amazement as the first group comes crashing through the rapid and slowly up the bank. “Sure you can and would you look at that here comes a group now as we speak.”
“Oh look here come the other 2 rafts and MR.G in the kayak with Tom ( Parent help ),” I wonder if MR.G’s watch is water proof, I might have to ask him, I thought in my mind as all of the other stuff about this wicked rafting trip with my class is flowing through my mind at the same time. “ Hey MR.G is your watch water proof?” “ I don’t actually know we will have to find out afterwards.”
“Ok” I said in a very adventures voice. “ Ok guys we have got about 30 minutes left in this rafting trip.” “Don’t you mean this adventure,” I say with a confused face as though I thought Mike was forgetting about how much fun and an adventure it had been. “Ok yes I mean that then, anyway as I was saying before Miss Felicity over here interrupted with her great idea, How have you all liked this AMAZING trip so far?” “We have loved it, ABSOLUTELY loved it” we all yelled out. ( We had planned this before we said it so it would be in time ) “ Well I think you guys deserve a treat, well actually it’s 4 treats. First it will be hopping out of the raft, holding onto the rope on the side and then letting go and floating down a rapid, do you think you’re all up to it?”
“TOTALLY!” “Well go for it of course, here comes a rapid, quick.” Sadly I was too slow and Mike ended up pushing me in. “Here comes the rapid, oh and a big rock, ahhhhhhhh my bum I hit it on the rock.”
“Ha-ha, you hit your bum” laughs Mike and MR.M” as I move away from the rock coming ahead.
“Ok now everyone back in the boat, remember how to pull each other in the raft safely, I did go over it just before.” “ We all safely get back into the raft.” “ Ok now our next treat it is walking around the side of the raft, who wants to be first to go around the raft.” “ Umm I will,” in a very nervous voice. “ Ok, off you go.” “ AHHH Eden can you please move, otherwise I might fall in, phew that was a close one, thank you for moving Eden if you didn’t I would be a drowned rat
[ Not literally though ].” “ Ok now lets get the rest of you a turn. Who next?...... Eden goes then Tyler, Daniel and last but not least Samuel. “ Next we will get to do a wheelie right across from where we finish, so are we ready or what Chinchillas,” “ yes we are.”
“Ok now once again can I please, please have everyone to the back beside me so we can go right up like a stick? Not for real though. Ok now that everyone is ready I need you all even you adults to lean forward when I tell you to, got it guys,” instructed Mike.
“ Yes.”
“Ok now lean forward and hold on.”.......
“Oh no MR.M fell out and look he is going back to shore, why is that Mike?”
“Well it is the end, so do you guys want to swim back to shore and then wait for me to paddle the raft back and then help me pull it out of the water so then when the bus comes the class can all work as a team and put all of the rafts back including the kayak that MR.G had.”
“Ok got it,” we all say cheerfully.
“Great off you go then, make sure that the current doesn’t take you away.”
“We will stay together just in case.”
“Ok.”
“Look the others are coming around the corner and the bus has arrived, Mike should we load our raft on since it will be easy for us?” I say in surprise since they all were in front of us before.
“Sure you can.” We all hop on the bus with all of the rafts including the kayak on the trailer. “Oh look at that poor little cow its head is stuck in the powerline, it obviously was trying to get more grass through the gap in it and its head got stuck.”........
When we get back to camp we get told to have a shower and then head down to the river side where there is a big patch of grass, where we will camp out for the night in a Bivouac that you will make with a partner,” says Mr. M in a very cheerful mode!

Archery and shooting reflection
Reflection for archery and shooting
· Something I was pleased with was archery and shooting, because I am a bit scared of shooting targets but I accomplished it.
· I really enjoyed learning when the bow and arrows were first made and what they are made of, because I did not know how they were made and how they what year they were found.
· Something I found hard was having to keep the bow inline with my eye and make sure I had the white feather facing up.
· Something that made me think was keeping my eye on the target for shooting, because I kept trying to get the cans beside it and around it.
· Something I want to get better at is being able to get a BULLSEYE.
What I can do to achieve this, I need to focus on what I am shooting at.

Key Words About Me
These are my key words about me. Our class ( room 20 ) had to do 5-10 key words about them selves and put them on tagxedo, a website exactly like wordle except you can make it a shape and play around with the colours, font and even print screen it onto paint and give it an eyeball like I did or even say who it is by like mine [ ITS MY NICKNAME ]and write something about what your key words are like. I wrote, I love duckys which would go under love of animals, I also gave it a background which is PINK because it is one of my favourite colours. It will make all of your words twist around and do all sorts. Like I said play around with it. Hope you enjoy!

My Rocket, level 6a
- This rocket shows me what I have learnt and still working on.
- I feel proud of myself because I have improved heaps since end of year 3.
- Something I was pleased with was that I know all my times tables now, yet I used to know my 5, 2, 1 and 10 times in year 3.
- Something I found hard was having to learn how to order numbers to 1 million, but I got there.
- I am going to start by practising my 6 division cause it will not take me long then I will move onto my reading numbers to 1 million.
